QuietRock 510 Installation Instructions
Read all instructions before installation. Remember: Safety first!
QuietRock is very similar in use to standard drywall. The panels have been used in 1000’s of
successful projects, large and small, and require little additional labor or training versus standard
drywall. Remove all edge tape before use.
- Hang QuietRock like standard drywall
- Score panel deeply on both sides, snap down over a straight edge, cut paper beneath score line
- QuietRock 510 panels weigh about the same as standard 1/2†drywall
- No special labor is required to install QuietRock 510
- No special training is required to install QuietRock 510
- No resilient channels, or clips are required with QuietRock.
- Finish the same as standard drywall (mud, tape, texture and paint are all the same)
- When used properly, QuietRock may provide 15 to 20 dB more isolation when compared
to standard drywall. See tested assemblies and solutions (separate document) for
specific details.
NOTE: As with all drywall products, hang QuietRock immediately or store flat it in a dry location. Protect the QuietRock materials from exposure to moisture during the construction or remodeling process, from product storage to project completion. Moisture or water can cause problems with any drywall product, including QuietRock. Do not cover with plastic for extended periods, as that may allow condensation. To complete the installation of QuietRock and maximize its acoustic performance, it is recommended that you use QuietSeal between the interior joints and QuietPutty
in any penetrations such as electrical outlets, HVAC ducts, water hookups and cables. Not using QuietSeal and QuietPutty may compromise the acoustical results of the installation.
The QuietRock line of engineered products is a sound isolation panel designed to replace standard drywall in any wall, including wood and metal studs, and as the base layer on a ceiling with a 5/8†panel applied over it. QuietRock 510 is a multilayer gypsum board product which includes highly engineered internal sound damping layers which provide dramatically increased transmission loss. QuietRock can be used with a variety of standard framing techniques including single, staggered and double stud construction. You may use QuietRock panels similarly to other 1â„2†gypsum wall products. The panels can be snapped, drilled, cut and attached to the frames. Please completely read these instructions bellow before beginning installation and be sure to always follow all OSHA safety guidelines when installing any Serious Materials product.
As with any other acoustically treated assembly, all air gaps and penetrations must be treated with non-hardening acoustical sealant and putty pads as specified by the manufacturer.
